It consists of two parts : Kallergio and a new section. In April 1932, the heirs of J. Kallergis donate the building to the municipality of Argos. The city council gave it away to the state along with the surrounding area in October 25 1955. The estalishment of the museum is project of the French Arhaelogical Schoool architected by the Russian Formin. The Kallergio museum was inaugurated in 1957 and the new section in 1961.
The collections include :
Findings from Argos and the surounding area dated back from the Middlehellenic period(about 2000 B.C.) until the Postroman times(600 B.C.).
Findings of the American School of Classical Studies from Lerna(Myloi) dated between the Neolithic and Mycenaen times(5000 - 1100 B.C.).
Findings of the French Archaelogical School from the ancient Market, the area of the theatre - ancient and Roman - and the Mycenaen grave in Deras.

Bridge-mouthed pot of the Posthelenic times. It comes from the excavations in Lerna. The type of the pot is Minoan, especially in the shape.

| Statuette of a woman-feeder, type F. Findings
of this type come from the graves and settlements of the
Mycenaen times.

Compass of the early Geometric times. It's decorated with meanderings and parallel lines. The "button" of the cover is a sign of an Attic influence. |
| Earthenware pomegranate models of the
Postgeometric times, wheel-driven and hand-made. The
pomegranate is the sign of wealth and prosperity and is
connected with the worship of the underworld. |

Mosaic floor from a house of the 5th century,
representing the months of the year with their
characteristic symbols. It seems that there existed a
mosaic workshop in Argos between the 5th and the first
half of the 6th century.

Crater of the Postgeometric times from an Argive atelier. It's the most common pot type in Argolida with raised, almost vertical, grips, decorated with metopes of geometrical jewels, horses and water birds. |
