Inhabited since the ancient times, at the same time as ancient Epidauros , and referenced since 1342. It obtains its latest historic existence during the byzantine times with the castle which is reinforced later by the Franks.

The most important place in New Epidauros is the square named 1st National Assembly sq. The cannon which was used to greet the declaration of the Greek political existence and independence as well as a memorial plate still exist. The residents of New Epidauros took then the privilege to be tax-exempt.

The imposing castle on top of the hill and the sea 3km further give the visitor the impression that the town swings into the blue. The view from the castle, down to the fertile plain and to islands Aegina, Methana and Aggistri, is really captivating.
